Our Impact

We see our positive impact across many areas, and thanks to our funders, and our committed team, we’re able to help victims of hate crime, educate business leaders, and fight for the reality of equality here in Wales.

Helping people

United Nations

Christina and her team produced the ‘Joint NGO Shadow Report on Racial Inequality in Wales’, highlighting significant failures to address ethnic disparities in all areas of life, and called on the Welsh Government to implement key reforms to eliminate racial discrimination in Wales.

The original report which was completed in 2021 has been revised in 2024 to reflect current issues around racial inequality in Wales. The report is the first of its kind in Wales and has been developed to inform the next United Nations (UN) examination of the UK and aims to investigate whether the UK had successfully tackled racial discrimination in areas such as policing, the criminal justice system, employment and education. Since we completed this report, we have been busy preparing for the UK hearing for the Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Representatives from Race Equality First will be attending the hearing in August 2024 to give feedback to the Committee on the Welsh & UK Government's adherence to and implementation of the UN ICERD treaty which we have signed up to as the United Kingdom. We look forward to giving an update on our visit to the United Nations in Geneva this summer.

Research

Our team is committed to developing the most up-to-date and practical research, to ensure our activities and campaigns are data-focused and able to successfully overcome the challenges people are facing. Led by Christina Tanti, whose credentials include producing a joint Non-Governmental Organization Shadow Report for Wales on racial inequality which was submitted to the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), and informed its review of the UK and devolved nations, the team works with its wider third sector networks to drive new findings and create complementary activities based on those objectives.
