Overview
As part of our long-term project aims, Race Equality First (REF) are looking to engage and support minority communities in the North Wales region. Access to healthcare services is a priority area for our organisation, and these booklets have been produced in 10 different languages to support those who are most vulnerable. As we know, many communities have become more isolated than ever before due to Covid-19 and are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing. We know that language, lack of understanding, and accessibility are barriers as to why minority communities do not access vital healthcare services and obtain the support they need. With lack of access to facilities and equipment, many resources that are produced to help communities during this time do not reach those who require it most.
REF have created a Health, Mindfulness and Wellbeing booklet in a number of languages that represent minority communities in North Wales. The Booklet includes health and wellbeing activities to do at home – including useful hints and tips of how to cope during lockdown and government restrictions – these have been provided by a number of contributors including Mind, British Heart Foundation, Age Cymru, Carers Wales, Tan Y Maen, The Mental Health Foundation and Welsh Women’s Aid to name a few. The booklets predominantly include contact information to important health and wellbeing services in the 6 local authority areas that connect to the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’.
We have also included information about how to access REFs Advocacy, Hate Crime and Discrimination services, as well as other relevant organisations that offer support. We hope that more minority communities in North Wales will engage with our services through this resource, and we encourage other organisations in the North Wales region to utilise the booklets as a helpful tool for their own engagement with these communities.
